About the film:

Riding powder is a useless pursuit—yet people across the globe devote their lives to it. The Meaningless Pursuit of Snow follows five such characters, all united by a backcountry culture so deep it spans languages and generations.

Backcountry Skiier

Vanessa Chavarriaga Posada didn’t spend her childhood skiing; as an undocumented immigrant born and raised in Colombia, it was too expensive, exclusive and risky. Then, as a college student, she tried backcountry skiing—and found a sense of belonging deeper than she’d imagined.

AIARE

Backcountry Education Non-Profit

AIARE was established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization to create an evidence-based avalanche education model for backcountry users with the belief that avalanche education, research, and training can prevent injuries and fatalities. AIARE develops and disseminates research-based avalanche curriculum to over 115 Providers nationwide, as well as in France, Chile, and Argentina, and also offers professional and avalanche instructor training courses.
